Did you know that Albion Nights takes its name from the Albion Fairs? These gatherings were a wild and wonderful part of my childhood. In the 70s and early 80s they brought community, music and creativity to the fields of Norfolk and Suffolk - reviving the spirit of medieval fairs with a rebellious, free-spirited heart.

My parents were part of the back-to-the-land movement, leaving Essex with us kids in tow to build a simpler life here. That same love of nature, craft and community shaped Albion Nights; a place to step away from the modern world and reconnect.

To help keep the memory of the fairs alive @hareandtabor has created a beautiful Albion T-shirt using original fair artwork, with proceeds supporting the Fairs Archive. I wear mine with pride thanks to a very lovely friend - you know who you are!

Richard Barnes wrote in his book Sun in the East “the fairs belong to everyone, and if there is a story of the fairs, it’s an unfinished one.”

I’m in a little bit in awe of these stunning shots taken here last month. They totally encapsulate what a stay in the cabin at this time of year is all about. Incredible night skies, stunning light during the day, hunkering down by the woodburner, reading by candlelight and slowing right down.

Let’s be honest, how often do you make time to properly do that?
To slow down.
To stop the whir.
To breathe a little more deeply.
Taking time to notice the small detail around you.

I’ve immersed myself in all of this throughout January and it’s been wonderful. Reset has been pressed.

THE IMPORTANT STUFF

Prices start from £195 per night. This includes a welcome hamper with locally sourced breakfast items, logs for the wood-burner plus eco-toiletries.
The cabins are open all year round with a minimum 2-night midweek stay during the off-peak season and 3-nights during peak season.
No WiFi. No plug sockets. Mobile phone signal is network dependent.
Adults only. Sorry no children or pets.
Check in is between 3-6pm and check-out is 10am. Later times by prior arrangement.
